Creative Doodling…

As many of you know, I find doodling to be a meditative practice.

I like to draw patterns in the evening, often while my hubby is watching basketball or whatever sport is on TV.  My hubby gets VERY involved with the games and often “encourages” the team and refs to play better.  😉

So I doodle away…  Like this one I recently started:91F794CC-2A09-45C2-B934-8BDEC8140BD2

And have been adding to it, a little each evening:

I was looking for inspiration for patterns and decided to look at this book I had purchased awhile back:

F0123A66-2C60-4743-928F-79151342ACC2

It has lots of creative ideas with blank pages to experiment!  Super fun!

If I get stuck, I look at this book for inspiration.  I usually can’t “copy” the patterns but use them as a place to start my own doodle pattern:

This doodle is approximately  5 inches wide by 5.25 inches in length.  I am using a Pigma Micron pen in various sizes – primarily .01

I try to balance shapes, patterns and value in my designs.  This is part of the fun!  I’m still working on this doodle and will post it when I’m done! 🙂

What inspires YOU to create patterns or doodle creatively?

I hope you share it with me!

Cheers! 🙂

A Square Project

A square idea

And a square book…

A square project

That has me hooked!

B8BE84C6-36DA-45EC-A6C1-89DD2CDB34C2

I’m so excited about this square project that I have planned for 2018!!  Perhaps you remember my paper collaged squares I did in December?

I kept working on it and it has grown in size and dimension:

EC6BDE5A-688D-4BF6-A214-50C519F6087F

So I decided I would keep adding to it!  Each month in 2018, I will add a section.  I hope to play with different colors, materials, techniques and inspiration and record my journey in my square journal and here on my blog.

I also want to learn how to create fabric with my patterns on Spoonflower.  🙂

May you be inspired to start a year-long project of discovery too!  I hope you share it with me so we can encourage each other.

Cheers! 🙂

The Flower Bird

Zen doodle meets Weird Bird Wednesday!

The Calendula Bird AKA the Marigold bird loves to flap its wings and spread the seeds of flowers in the Fall so that we have a beautiful Spring!

Did you know that deer don’t like to eat this flower?  I like to plant it at the lake in the summer where deer like to nibble on all leaves, flowers and fruit – like this skinny one:

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Bird-Dog Tired…

I was feeling dog-tired yesterday after work so I decided to mix things up for today’s Weird Bird Wednesday.

When I posted this doodle on Instagram recently, my sweet and talented friend, Carol at Carolscreativepapers.wordpress.com  told me she saw a bird and dog in it:

What do you see?  I hope you share it with me!

I find creating these zen doodles very meditative.  I always enjoy it when I get one completed because it means I can start something new!

Wishing you a happy day!

Cheers! 🙂

Fish Doodle – Done

Perhaps you remember this fish doodle that I started recently?  If not, you can find it here:   Paint Pen Fish Doodle

I have been working on it a little each evening and I am finally done!

IMG_3020

I am really please how it turned out!  What do you think?

I reminds me of Koi fish swimming in a pond.  I love watching fish swim almost as much as I like drawing doodles! 😉

Cheers to a relaxing weekend! 🙂

A Paint Pen Fish Doodle

I started a new doodle with the paint pens by scribbling some colors on the art journal I showed you yesterday.

I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do but it was super fun to just play:

IMG_2947

I used the Posca paint pens in colors of  light gray, yellow and light green.  It is interesting how the colors change depending on the time of day!

I just started doodling with a black Micron pen and these fish appeared:

IMG_2953

So I went with the flow of it…  If I made a mistake with the black ink, I could easily cover it up with a paint pen!  🙂

I discovered that the black ink takes a little longer to dry over the acrylic painted surface so it can easily smear if you aren’t careful.

This is like a puzzle for me to solve as I search for fish and create patterns:

I added a few more lines with the paint pen to create another fish.  Can you find it hidden in the picture above the other two fish?

I will post my completed fish doodle next week.

Cheers! 🙂

100 Days Of Drawing Faces

I posted my 100th face on Instagram yesterday!  WHOOT!  😊 I accomplished my goal of drawing 100 faces in a little over 100 days… Phew!!

Maybe some of you recall my first face I posted on April 4th – it was a quick sketch in one continuous line:

IMG_0932

100 days is A LOT especially when I am working full-time… (What was I thinking?!) and yet having limited time helped me to accomplish my goal because I didn’t have time to fuss over it.

I didn’t post everything I did like this one:

IMG_2001

I would have liked to have more time to do more like this one, where I mixed collage and acrylics:

IMG_1383

But I enjoyed trying a variety of art mediums:

IMG_2704

Sprinkled with a little humor:

I think this one is one of my favorites – Picasso style:

IMG_1220

And this one I did in watercolor with drips for hair:

IMG_1676

I found I could draw more realistic looking faces and even my own – or at least my better half!  Lol! 🙂

IMG_1752

I think the greatest lesson I learned is that it isn’t perfection that matters but PRACTICE!!  Daily practice does make a difference….

IMG_1625

Especially in finding ones “style” in art!  I found I really liked creating “characters” rather than REAL people:

IMG_2204

And yet, drawing a variety really is the best teacher!  Here is my 100th face:

IMG_2700

I’m sure it won’t be my last…

Yet, let’s FACE it, I need a little break from drawing faces!

Cheers! 🙂

A Letter Day

Yesterday, I finished doodling my letters in my World Watercolor Month sketchbook that I posted recently:

IMG_2290

This inspired me to use the letters, “WBW” for today’s Weird Bird Wednesday:

IMG_2295

I knew if I moved my paper around, I could find a weird bird in the letters… Can you find one?

This one flew off the page at me – so I added a few more details with watercolors:

IMG_2298

Next, I decided to doodle my letters with an ink pen to finish it:

IMG_2300

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!!

Cheers! 🙂

Imagine A Doodle

I recently started a new doodle and here is my progress:

Yesterday, I got a little more done on it:

IMG_1384

One of my favorite art quotes by Albert Einstein is:

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.  For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

Cheers!  🙂

Instant Summer

Seems our weather in the Pacific Northwest has gone from a cool Spring to above 80 degrees in one day!  Ugh!!  I do like warmer weather but prefer gradual increases in temperatures…

Here is a doodle I did a while ago but I haven’t posted yet:

IMG_1326

My cat loves the sunshine but even he was too hot to be outside this afternoon!  Lol!

Happy Friday!

Cheers! 🙂
