The Turveydrops

I love playing with words and their meanings!

So when Carla Sonheim announced this NEW online class on Word Play, taught by the fabulous Lynn Whipple – I jumped “write” in!

I created this piece today based on a quote from Dr. Seuss:

Sour Gooseberry Jam

It says:  “Shout Loud!  I am LUCKY to be what I am!  Thank goodness I’m not just a clam or a ham or a dusty old jar of sour gooseberry jam!”

I glued a sheet from an old book on names to 140 lb hot press watercolor paper with matte medium.  After it dried, I glued on this old photo (no relation) and painted Golden fluid acrylic paint in Titan Buff, randomly over the background.

Next, I glued the gelli-printed hats and jar to the paper, outlining them with a black pen.  I tried to add a little color to some of the words with wax pastels.  I found the name, “Turveydrop” in the text so this is what I named my couple.

I want to add more to this piece after I take Lynn Whipple’s online class on September 15-26.   Will you be joining in the FUN?!  I hope so!

Happy Friday!   🙂

  1. SO fun to see your work. You are already inspired. Who needs a class? Or just for the fun of doing it all together. I can see your delight in the words ánd the paint.
