I hope you join in the fun…

And create a fish a day!!

The FISH art project begins September 1st through October 31st – which gives one a couple of days to “throw out the net” but let one or two “fish” art projects escape!

As I posted previously, you can find it here:  Fishing – A couple of friends and I created this mixed media art challenge for fun!

I will be posting on Instagram with the hashtag: #create50fish if you want to join in!!

Happy Fishing!  🙂

A Party Gal And Night Owl

Funny how one idea often leads to another!

I recently created this paper collage for the 100-day project on Instagram (I’m doing 100 days of faces).

“Dottie hoped someone would ask her to dance at the party…”

IMG_2179

I found a photo of a face and cut it in half to challenge myself to draw the second half of her face a little differently.  I added collage from a magazine for her dress and a hat from paper I purchased to give her a little zing! 🙂 The background I created with watercolor.

This led me to create today’s weird bird:  “Her friends called her a night owl.”

IMG_2199

This one is a bit weird – even for me… but you have to admit, it is quite a hoot to look at!  Lol!  😉

I found an image of an owl, cut it in half and found an image of a gal’s face and matched the two images together.  Next, I traced part of her dress using tracing paper and then cut out a piece of my gelli-printed paper.  I liked the striking contrast with the black and white image with the red.

I found another gelli-print to paste my image to – it looks a bit mysterious with a moon shape in the upper left corner.  The image at the bottom I cut from a piece of collage paper.

I hope you enjoyed learning how I created today’s collages.  These were like a puzzle for me and so fun to do!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

The Little Pink House

The first home my hubby and I rented was very small… so small that my sis said we must be in love!  And we were!  Looking back now, we were so young:

Below is an “artistic” floor plan of our 441 square foot home in Cheney, WA:

IMG_0573

The little pink house sat between 2 railroad tracks which took a little getting used to!  We had a king-sized waterbed that felt like one of those coin-operated massage beds when the trains passed.  Lol!  The bed took up most of the room too.  I had to lie on the bed in order to open the dresser.

My hubby sold stereos at the time and we had a set of Magnepan speakers in the living room – 2 ft wide, 6 ft high and 1 inch thick.  Perfect sound for a tiny home!  😉

We had our first garden in the backyard.  The cows next door got loose one time and helped to fertilize the garden.  We had zucchini so large we used them as door stops.

Our first cat, we named Abbynormal after the Young Frankenstein movie.  I remember the cat was a bit abnormal and loved the swamps near our house.

When the landlord doubled the rent a year later, we moved to Spokane, WA and paid much higher rent but we a bigger house!  🙂

Do you remember your first home?  I’d love to hear your memories!

Cheers!  🙂

Creating sdrawkcaB

In case you are confused my title, it says, “Creating Backwards.”  It was my creative prompt on Friday by Carla Sonheim for the year long class I’m taking online.

It challenged me to create this collage in a different order:

img_0063

Normally, I would create a collaged background with various papers and then paste an old photo over it.  But this time, I collaged a background of old book pages, then the photo and lastly my hand painted gelli-printed deli papers on top.

I like how the patterns and transparentcy of the deli paper add a little mystery to the piece.

I finished by stenciling the number of the day, 41 and a section of the alphabet backwards.

How would you create something in a different order?  You might surprise yourself like I did.  I encourage you to give it a try!

Cheers! 🙂

Glee Club

I have a collection of old photos of people I don’t know… it is fun to use them in my art!

Like the Flower girls:

They look like they could be members of a Glee Club!! Hope it gives you a smile today!  🙂

Cheers Friends!!

Maple Trees

I have always loved maple trees – their sturdy branches, autumn display, not to mention their lovely leaf shape!

I planted a Maple tree a few years ago and was recently inspired by its leaves in my yard:

To create this collage last week in my art journal:

img_8700

I used a copy of an old photo of someone I didn’t know, a song from a children’s songbook, my Gelli-printed deli paper, a Maple leaf rubber stamp and an actual Maple leaf to create a cut-out of a leaf with handmade marbled paper I purchased.

It looks to me like this little boy would love to be climbing a Maple tree or swinging from its branches on a swing!

Wishing you a happy day with sweet memories from your childhood!  🙂

Sir Earhand, A Ghost And Frank

I carved my pumpkin yesterday and named him, Sir Earhand – The Great Pumpkin!

img_8696

I’m not sure if he has ears or hands!  Lol!  I had fun carving him and look forward to roasting pumpkin seeds in the oven.

I found this old photo of me as a ghost (I’m almost 2 years old) with my older sis, a black cat.  🙂

And perhaps you remember, Frank from last Halloween?

Wishing you a Happy Halloween, friends!  🙂

Jakob Cats

Introducing Jakob Cats – A Dutch Poet for today’s Whimsical Wednesday story:

image

Who is the REAL Jakob Cats?  And why is this his favorite dish?

image

Here is my story…

Jakob Cats was known as “Father Cats” because of his love of cats.  Jakob took in many stray cats during his lifetime that kept him company while he wrote his poetry.  At one time, Mr. Cats owned over 30 cats at once!  :-0

Having owned so many cats, Mr. Cats started to look like a cat himself.  He grew several face whiskers extra long and painted the end of his nose a light pink color.

Mr. Cats recently purchased a new “calico” coat with a matching hat that looked like cat ears.  He wore it to his mother’s home when she made him his favorite birthday dinner, “Veal Stew with Prunes.”  He was the cat’s meow in his mother’s eyes.

Now it is your turn to tell a story!  I hope that you have fun giving it your own creative spin!  I’d love if you shared it with me!

Happy tales to you!  🙂

When Life Gives You Lemons…

When life gave me lemons, I tried to draw and paint them in my sketchbook…

And create a collage using an old photograph:

And create the beginning of a story…

School was starting soon and all the kids dreaded Mrs. Lemon’s class!  She hardly ever smiled because…  Now it’s your turn to finish the story in a sentence or two!  🍋😉🌟

Did you have a teacher that you dreaded in school?!  I’d love to hear about it!

Happy Whimsical Wednesday friends!  I hope I gave you a smile today!!  😄
